The Directorate of Planning is situated within the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry and consists of two divisions, namely: Division of Agricultural Planning (DAP) and Division of Cooperative Development (DCD). DAP has three sub-divisions, Policy and Planning, Marketing and Statistics and Early Warning.
The aim of the Statistics and Early Warning sub-division is to provide policy/decision makers with up-to date information on agricultural production trends and prospects. The sub-division is divided into the Early Warning Unit and the Statistics unit.
The Statistics unit collects agricultural statistics from both line ministries and non-governmental organizations. For the production of agricultural statistics the Directorate of Planning (DoP) within the MAWF collaborates with the Central Bureau of Statistics the Directorate of Planning Commission (NPC). The institutional arrangements are as follows:
- The CBS has the responsibility for primary data collection activities that are collecting data directly from persons, households or establishments during censuses and surveys.
- DoP is the main user and interpreter of agricultural data. The Directorate takes responsibility for the technical analysis of food and agricultural statistical data. DoP is also responsible for smaller, more specialized data collection activities according to our immediate data needs (e.g. the Farm Household Economic Surveys; Agricultural Price Watch Namibia and the Agricultural Statistics Bulletin).
